I am
at a genealogical "block wall" with the family surnames: Mielke and Roggenbuck.
Johann
Paul Mielke b. 1854 and wife Susannah H. Roggenbuck, arrived at the Port
of Baltimore on 2/25/1892, from Floetenstein, German Empire with four young
children. They settled in Bellingham, Minnesota & Nassau, Minnesota
(Lac Qui Parle County). While I've been able to document that Susannah
and her children were born in Floetenstein, I have not been able to document
thatJohann Paul Mielke was from Floetenstein.
Today,
Floetenstein isn't in Germany...Today it is called Koczala, in the Polish
county of Czluchow, Koszalin, Poland.
Due
to the lack of Floetenstein records available, I wrote to the Church at
Floetenstein. They assured me that all Floetenstein records were
destroyed during the wars and that records exist for only 10 unconsecutive
years of course, they are not the years I need to further my research....thus
the block wall. I am now trying to locate any brothers or sisters that
Johann may have had in the United States (I understand there were quite
a few). So...until more records surface, I will be collecting all
of the Mielke genealogies I can find, with hopes of finding a family connection.
I already have quite a few (that aren't related to me). If you send me
your Mielke info, I'll take a look and see if anyone else in my data base
is researching your line....if I can't find my Mielke's maybe I can help
you find yours.

OUR
MIELKE's LAST LIVED IN FLÖTENSTEIN, GERMANY (NOW POLAND) BEFORE THEY
CAME
TO
AMERICA IN 1892. JOHANN MIELKE's WIFE WAS SUSANNA ROGGENBUCK (AND
THE
ROGGENBUCK's
WERE DEFINITELY FROM FLÖTENSTEIN). I'M NOT SO SURE OUR MIELKE's
WERE,
I SUSPECT THEY WERE FROM A TOWN NEAR FLÖTENSTEIN
Research Tip: I have found the Mielke name spelled a wide variety of ways: Mulkey, Milke, Milky, Mihlke etc. Census takers were notorious for poor spelling, so keep that in mind when your looking through records.
I have
worked very hard to extract the information you see on these
web
pages. You are welcome to link back to my pages, however,
please
respect my efforts by giving credit where credit is due.
Thank you, Coleen Mielke
