Matanuska Townsite /Junction

A July 1916 issue of the Deseret News, in Salt Lake, Utah, described Matanuska Junction:
"About 60 lots at Matanuska Townsite on the U.S. Railroad branch into the Matanuska Coal Fields were sold on July 26th. The new town will supply the agricultural country in portions of the Matanuska and Susitna valleys. The government has a commercial freight house and depot under construction there, and contemplates errecting a warehouse and lumberyard. This is the first government town located on the main line of the railway from tidewater."

Early survey records
described Matanuska Townsite as: W 1/2 of the NE 1/4 and the NW 1/4 of Section 26 and the SW 1/4 and the SW 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of Section 23  Seward Base and Meridian.

On July 26, 1916, 56 lots were sold to private people at Matanuska Townsite
