(see Husband) She died on 10 JUL 1907 at Crystal Lake, McHenry County, Illinois. Nunda Herald Nunda, Illinois (McHenry County) Thursday, July 18, 1907 Mrs. Abigail Colby Abigail Colby, daughter of Abijah and Thankful Smith, was born at Johnson, Vt., on the 25th of December, 1825, and died at Crystal Lake, July 10, 1907. Mrs. Colby was married to Webster Colby, Feb. 2, 1843. Four children were born of this marriage - Emma, Edgar (deceased), Smith and Clarence. Webster Colby crossed the plains to California in 1849, returning in November of the same year by the way of the isthmus and the Gulf of Mexico, but died on the steamer before its arrival at New Orleans. On April 27, 1855, Mrs. Colby was united in marriage to Albert Colby, a younger brother of her former husband. To this union were born three children - Minnie, Lillian and Fred L. Mr. Colby -preceded his wife to the better land about five months, and was so greatly missed that Mrs. Colby was often heard to say that she longed to go and join him. Mrs. Colby was a devoted wife and mother, in her days of activity doing much good for the poor and alienating the sufferings of those about her. She was greatly interested in the work of temperance, and aided as much as was in her power this great movement. There was much in her life to emulate and truly it shall be said, "her good works shall follow her." The funeral services were held from the late home last Friday afternoon, being conducted by Rev. A. C. Heyman of the Congregational church, and the mortal remains were laid to rest in the Union cemetery. After a long, busy and useful life she died as she had lived - honored, trusted and loved. She reared her own monument while she lived, in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was completed, if work all done and well done constitutes completion. Her Christian life was beautiful from its beginning to its close, and through all the vicissitudes and sorrows that she met in the way, her faith in God never wavered. But she has left us and sleeps peacefully in the grave that hides from our sight all that is mortal of a true and noble woman. Blair. He served a mission to the Pacific Slope in 1875 with David H. Smith. He then labored in Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, and Kansas, until he returned to the Pacific Slope in 1885. He was ordained president of the Quorum of the Twelve on 15 April 1890 at Lamoni, Decatur, Iowa, by Joseph Smith III and William W. Blair. He served in the Rocky Mountain mission in 1892 and in the eastern states in 1893. He was called to be a counselor to his brother, Joseph Smith III, and also a patriarch and evangelical minister on 12 April 1897 by Joseph Smith III. He went on a mission to Australia, Hawaii, and the Society Islands in 1901. He served in these offices until 1902, when he was released from being a counselor, but continued to be the Presiding Patriarch and evangelical minister from 1897 to 1909. Alexander was a partner in a photograph gallery before becoming a carpenter.
