JENNIE MARTHA BOSSHARDT FAMILY Jennie came into the world in a two room rock house in Axtell on April 26, 1891 to Annie Margaret Hansen. Her father had died of diphtheria, January 1, 1891, 3 months before she was born, and her brother, John Henry, died December 29, 1890. He was 1« years old. The Axtell Cemetery first started because Jennie's dad and brother could not be taken into Gunnison because the people were afraid of an epidemic. Jennie had a sister, Laura Elizabeth, who was 3 1/2 years old. They were hard times for a mother and two little girls trying to make a living off the land and living in a little two room rock house Four years later, May 28, 1895, Annie Margaret married Edwin Watts. Together they had three little girls. Emma, born March 10, 1896. Lilly, born November 15, 1897. Margaret, born September 21, 1899. But about one month after Margaret was born their mother Annie Margaret died on October 18, 1899, leaving Edwin and the older girls to take care of the little ones. Jennie was 8 years old and her sister was 12. One year later Edwin Watts married Laura Hannah Crowther February 2, 1900. Jennie's sister Laura didn't live long enough to get to know her new mother because she died in 1901. She was 14 years old at the time. Edwin and Laura had six children: Edwin born November 25, 1901 Clara Born May 20, 1904 Mable born January 10, 1906 Rozella born July 19, 1910 Lawrance born October 29, 1912 Moral born September 14, 1921 Jennie married her new mother's brother Thomas Francis Crowther on June 3, 1907. She was 16 at the time and Thomas was 26 and together they started a family. Thomas Clarence born May 30, 1908 Ellis Richard born August 30, 1910 Newell J. Born March 23, 1913 - Newell only lived to be 8 years old. He died September 13, 1921 from pneumonia. Mildred born September 14, 1918 Ray George born March 28, 1923 Laura Hannah Crowther Watts died September 17, 1921, just three days after Moral was born. Moral was a very small baby, he would fit in a shoe box and Edwin didn't have any way to take care of him so one day Edwin took Moral over to Thomas and Jennie and told them to take care of him and raise him as their own, which they did. Moral never knew any other parents but Tom and Jennie Crowther. The depression of 1929 were hard times where there was hardly enough food to go around for Tom and Jennie and their five children. I can't even emanate what hard times they went through. Jennie told me once that even the animals went crazy because they had a cat that had kittens and there wasn't food for them. But this cat had one kitten she made sure got any food there was until one day Jennie went outside and saw the mother and the other kittens eating the little fat kitten. Tom and Jennie built the house that still stands in Axtell where they lived the rest of their lives. Clarence took a wife on September 21, 1932, her name was Della C. Mickelsen and together they gave Tom and Jennie two grandchildren named Arven and Newell. Sorrow came again because Clarence's wife Della became very sick and died November 20, 1940. Mildred married Max L. Peterson and then they had three more grandchildren, Maxine, DelRita, and Ellis. Clarence moved home with his two boys for Jennie to help him raise. Mildred also moved home with her three children, Tom and Jennie's door was always open when people needed help. World War 2 came, Tom and Jennie saw three of their boys, Ellis, Ray and Moral go off to a foreign land to fight, never knowing from one day to the next if they were well or dead, but the war ended in 1945 and all three came home with the horrors of war to stay with them for the rest of their lives. Clarence had met and married a girl named June Long. They were married September 28, 1943 and together they gave Tom and Jennie two more grandchildren, George and Neta. On August 4, 1944, Moral married ElNita Christensen and they moved to Aurora. They adopted or took into their home three boys, Ronald, Odell and Robert. Tom and Jennie knew them as their own grandchildren. Ray married Golda Eva Murphy November 24, 1950. They had two children Kathleen and Brad. Jennie worked hard all her life on the farm, but mostly she had a large chicken farm on which she raised baby hens to laying hens to sell the eggs for money to live on. Tom had cattle and did the farming with his sons and grandchildren, until he couldn't get around to do the farming. Before he died he was confined to a wheel chair and then he confined to his bed. Thomas Francis Crowther died in 1964 at the age of 83. Jennie was in good health all her live up until a few months before she died. She fell and broke her hip.
