Flora L. JACKMAN was born on 23 JAN 1869. She appeared in newspaper in 1940
"The longer we are married, the more we love one another," agreed Mr. and Mrs. Bert W. Colby, 47 N. Caroline street, when they observed their fiftieth or golden wedding anniversary Tuesday.

The date was a happy one for the Colby's both of whom enjoy perfect health and appear much younger than the usual half century wedded couple. Life has been good to them and they have enjoyed it to the fullest.

Mr. and Mrs. Colby were married Oct. 1, 1890 in the home of the bride's parents, the house being located at Grant and Brink streets, the site now being occupied by the Bauer and Bauer Oil company. The house was moved to Rosedale avenue and is now owned by Hilding Olson. Rev. Wm. H. Pierce, Methodist pastor, performed the wedding ceremony.

Mr. and Mrs. Colby resided in the Wingate house on Grant street, then a new structure which was contructed by Roy Beckley. Mr. and Mrs. Colby have four children who with their families, were here Monday and Tuesday. "They have all made us proud of them," said Mrs. Colby. "All have done well and have never caused us any trouble, instead bringing us much happiness." James is a banker at Loyal, Raymond is a business man at Loyal, Emma resides at Seveka, Minn., and Florence at Paris, Tex. "We spend most of our time visiting our children," said Mr. Colby. "We go to Texas twice a year and that is quite a trip. In addition to our four children, we also have 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren in which we are greatly interested."

Mrs. Colby is the former Miss Flora Jackman, her father having come here when 6 years old. The Jackmans came here from Pennsylvania and found the lake area to their satisfaction. Her grandfather, Wm. Jackman was the first postmaster here. Her father was an efficient farm manager and in addition was a very successful insurance writer handling loans along with his other successful undertakings.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Colby joined the Methodist church in their youth and have been active members ever since.

"Our life together has been pleasant all the way" said Mrs. Colby. "We both have the same viewpoint on almost every question and that is important in marriage." Mr. Colby admitted that he was so thrilled over the celebration that he took pen in hand and composed a poem. "He served notice on the children a year ago that they were to be here," said Mrs. Colby.

Mrs. Colby was a member of the second class to be graduated from the local high school.

Monday night the Colbys and their children and families enjoyed a family celebration, a feature being a bounteous chicken dinner. Following "open house" Tuesday afternoon, the family went to the Baker Hotel at St. Charles for dinner. The Colbys enjoy their imposing residence on Caroline street and are always hospitable.
