Zaccheus served an apprenticeship at tanning and currying with Col. John Calfe
of Kingstown. After he became of age he fitted for college a Dummer School at
Byefield, and grad. at Dart., 1777. He married Mary Calfe, daughter of his former
master. He was settled as a minister in Pembroke, 1780, and his children were
all born there. It is said that he was once offered a Professor's Chair at Bowdoin,
but he declined it.
Mr. Colby lived in Chester on Gov. Wentworth's farm of 250 acres.
