Bent TILTON — Grace Arabella (Colby) Bent, 102, a former resident of the Northfield-Tilton areas, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen. She was born in Clinton, Mass., July 24, 1898, daughter of George H. and Catherine M. (Carruth) Colby. She graduated from Clinton High School, class of 1913, and attended business college in Worcester, Mass. She married Charles H. Bent of Clinton in 1920. She had lived independently until age 94 and had lived in Lynn and Springfield, Mass., and Calais, Maine, following her husband’s career moves and retirement in Northfield in 1965. While living in Lynn, Mrs. Bent was active in church and community affairs and president of the Washington Street Baptist Church Women’s Association, president of the Lynn YMCA Mother’s Club and president of the Highland School PTA. In Springfield she was a leader in the Park Memorial Baptist Church women’s groups and was a Girl Scout Leader as well. She was active in church work in Calais, Maine, and in the Northfield-Tilton Congregational Church in Tilton where she sang in the choir for a number of years. While living in the Tilton-Northfield area, she was a member of and former president of the Garden Club and was active in the Women’s Club and Eastern Star. Mrs. Bent was dedicated to her family and throughout her long life maintained a strong sense of humor which stayed with her to the very end. She was a fine person, loved by many. She was predeceased by her husband, George H. Bent, who died Sept. 1, 1970. Her family includes three sons, C. Colby Bent of Lyme, Dr. Donald F. Bent of New London, and George H. Bent of Claremont; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen C. Slanetz of Keene; numerous nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held for family and friends Saturday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. in the Northfield-Tilton Congregational Church, Main Street in Tilton, immediately followed by a reception in her memory at the church. A family friend, the Rev. David McIlhiney of Claremont, will officiate and organist will be Lynn Bastis. Interment was in the family lot in Park Cemetery. Her family suggests that contributions be sent to the Edna C. McKenna Trust Fund, c/o Merrimack County Nursing Home, 325 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303-2410. The William F.
