Crystal Lake Herald Crystal Lake, Illinois (McHenry County) Thursday, April 23, 1936 George Colby, 86 years old, a retired farmer and lifelong resident of the McHenry region, died Friday afternoon at the old Colby homestead near McCollum's lake. He had been ill for several years with a heart affliction. Mr. Colby was born March 1, 1850, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Page Colby, who came to the McHenry region from Vermont in 1842. For manyyears he farmed the old homestead place, the land that his father had bought from the government when he settled near McHenry. Mr. Colby is survived by three children, Raymond Colby, with whom he resided, Guy Colby and Mrs. Nina Judy, and a brother, Willard Colby of Wauconda. The funeral service was held from the late home Monday afternoon at 2, the Rev. R. W. Pinnell, pastor of the McHenry Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Woodland cemetery. Colby of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Deborah Taylor of Raleigh, NC, and Pamela Colby of St. Petersburg, FL; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Kings Grant Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Hampton Roads Youth Center.
