Obituary.

Frank H. Colby, aged 47 years, died Feb. 15th, 1892, at his home in Portland, N. Dak., from an attack of la grippe which terminated in pneumonia.

Frank H. Colby was born in Holland, Erie county, N. Y., June 28, 1844, removing to Hastings, Minnesota, with his parents in 1856, where he remained until the opening of the war. He enlisted in the fall of ’61 in Co. F, 3d Reg. Minn. Vol. Inft., from which he was discharged for disability, in the summer of ’62. In the fall of that year re-enlisted in the 8th Reg. Minn. Inft., in which he served until the close of the war. Married in 1865 to Elizabeth Tompkins. Removed to Alexandria in the spring of 1867 where he remained until the spring of 1891, when he removed with his parents and family to Portland, N. Dak.

He had been a complete invalid for four years. After he removed to Dakota his health seemed to improve until his late illness which proved fatal, his system not being in condition to withstand the attack.

He leaves a wife and three daughters to mourn his loss.

Frank served in the Civil War. Family story has it that during this same time he was captured by Indians and tied to a pole and left to die. He escaped and while running from the Indians, ran in to the Quantrell gang and escaped from them also.
