Obituary for Mrs. Belinda Colby; Mrs. Belinda Colby died after a short illness of la grippe, at her home two miles east of Pontiac, Thursday, Jan. 24, 1901, at 2:30 p.m., aged 89 years 5 months and 20 days. Alice Belinda Allen was born near Lockport, Niagara County, N.Y. Aug. 5th, 1811. Came to Michigan with her parents in May, 1827, and settled in the township of Waterford, on the 30th of December of the same year, was married to Ephriam Colby. In the spring of 1828 came on the farm where she resided during the past 73 years. Her husband died June 8th, 1868. Deceased was the mother of 12 children, if whom only five survive. C.E. Colby, of Sterling, N.D.; James A. Of Independence, Oregon; Frank L. of Pontiac; Mrs. Alice McAfee, of Hamilton, Genesse County; and Mrs. Susie Reeves of Pontiac. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The funeral took place in her late home, Sunday, Jan. 27, at 2:30p.m. Elder Stevens officiating, and four of her grandsons acting as pall-bearers. Interment at Oak Hill.
