Clyde Ray West, 91, of Scottsbluff, died Thursday evening, September 17, 2009, at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home at Scottsbluff. His funeral will be Friday, September 25 at 2 p.m. at the Berean Bible Church, 1701 Ave. K, in Scottsbluff with Pastors Scott Clark and Steve Demoret officiating. Interment will be in the Mitchell Valley Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Nebraska National Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or Prairie Haven Hospice. Friends may call at the Church, Thursday, Sept. 24 from 3 to 7 p.m. He was born October 3, 1917, at Broadwater, the son of Ira Raymond and Helen Lillian (Richardson) West. He was raised and educated at Bridgeport and Lyman. Clyde was united in marriage to Goldie Louise Coker, February 4, 1939 at Torrington, Wyo. The couple moved to Inglewood, Calif., where he was employed with the North American Aviation Company. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in May of 1945 and was honorably discharged in December of 1945. After his discharge, they moved to Scottsbluff where he began his carpentry trade erecting various grain silos, houses and church buildings. Clyde later began a construction partnership partnership of West-Hennings, Inc.
Survivors include his daughter Barbara Stackhouse of Minatare; sons Dennis (Carol) West of Temecula, CA., David (Brenda) West of Elwood, Neb; daughter LeAnne (Josh) Skavdahl of Harrison; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters Mildred Carpenter of Douglas, Wyo., Betty (Douglas) Weddell of Gering, June Fiester of Gering; brother Landis (Betty) West of Echo, Ore; and sisters-in-law Helen West of Mitchell and Lorraine West of North Platte.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Goldie on Oct. 2, 2003, sister Mary and brothers Don and Jack.
