I'll have to send you the particulars from home, this is my best recollection off the top of my head. John and Francis first show up around 1634-36 in Branford CT, John went to Guilford and Frances stayed on. He was
the cow herder for the town. He had some trouble in either Guilford or Branford when he sold a gun to a neighbor man and it misfired and the barrell exploded and almost killed him. His brother John testified on his behalf but Frances was found guilty and had to pay a fine to the man, I believe it was 15 pounds. Anyway, Frances didn't get his land grant so he moved on to Newark NJ where he was awarded a considerable amount of property in the subsequent "dolings" and had many children with a woman named Susanna Culpepper. I'm from that line. I have a bit of info on John at home, I'll see what I have and get back to you. I'll email you from home with a more accurate account. I have a copy of a book that was published in the 1930's by a John Lindly of Iowa. He researched the family from 1639 to 1930.
I come from the Francis line, he was John's brother. I have a copy of a book about the Lindsley,Lindly etc from 1639 - 1930. I'll see if anything interesting shows up. Have you seen any of Ed Ball's research on the internet? How acutrate would you say he is? I'm at work so I better get to it. I just wanted to touch base.
