The History of the Early Settlers of Sangamon County, IL

Samuel Black made his first trip to Sangamon County to move the mother of Rev. Peter Cartwright. He made, altogether, seven round trips with a six horse team, when there were no roads, in moving the Cartwright, Gaines and Black families.

Mildred and Samuel were md. near Hopkinsville, KY their parents having moved to Christian, KY in 1819. they arrived in Sangamin, IL in 1825, thence on to Morgan, Il in 1828. They settled about six miles north of Jacksonville, IL.
