BIOGRAPHY: From: APTurner@aol.com <APTurner@aol.com> To: chenille@vitrex.net <chenille@vitrex .net> Date: Tuesday, December 15, 1998 8:55 AM Subject: GILKISONspouse: Moffitt, George (~1780 - 1860)BIOGRAPHY: During the course of my research on the Brown name in Augusta Co, VA, I was poking around looking for collateral relatives of collateral relatives of collateral relative s (yes, I am that desperate with a common name like Brown!), I found a document for Hugh Brow n dated 1805 which might be of interest to you: (http://198.17.62.51/cgi-bin/drawer/disk19/CC 150/0359/B0194?90):
BIOGRAPHY: My interpretation:
BIOGRAPHY: Hugh Brown is an heir of Francis Brown whose patent on Naked Creek 25 Sep 1747 was mistakenly entered under the name of Samuel Brown. There is a card for Samuel Brown whic h looks like it's for this piece of land but with the date 25 Sep 1746: http://198.17.62.51/cgi-bin/drawer/disk19/CC150/0360/B0197?7
BIOGRAPHY: Other heirs of Francis Brown are Margarett who married a Leeper (I might have had trouble decihpering it if I wasn't watching for the name Leeper, but it sure looks like i t), and Janett who married a Gilkison. Janett had probably died before 1805, and her heirs ar e Robert, Francis, and Rebeccah Gilkison, plus a daughter who had married William Young. Thes e other heirs had transferred their interest in the land to Hugh Brown in 1793-1795. There mi ght be land records which show these transfers with the husbands' names.
BIOGRAPHY: If you have studied the Brown name in Augusta Co, VA, I'd be glad to hear of your results.
