BIOGRAPHY: He was a General of the U.S. Army. Edmund entered the army in 1799; was Brigadie r General in 1814; later was Major General. He was appointed by the Federal Government to fi nd out who were implicated in the plot with Aaron Burr. According to orders General Gaines s ought out and arrested aaron Burr. Throughout his career he felt the effects of the Burr inf luence against him when it came to promotions in the Army. He distinguished himself in his m emorable defense of Fort Erie until severely wounded. He later served in the Seminole War.
