Elijah Drury Calvert was eldest child of Jesse Anderson Calvert and his first wife, Elizabet h Ezell. He left Alabama and settled in jack county, Tex., where he married when twenty-si x years of age, Cassie Florence Williams. They had three children. He was a mechanic. Abou t a year after his wife's death when he was running a cotton gin, he lost his right hand. I n July, 1907, while working a thrasher he had purchased, and was thrashing wheat in Oklahoma , he had his left hand mashed. The doctors tried to save it but blood poison set in and th e arm had to be taken off at the socket.
