Researchers: P. G. Fulkerson, a soldier in the Civil War, wrote his "recollections" of the Ea rly Settlers of Claiborne Co., Tennessee. In it he writes: "James Eastridge came to Powell Va lley from Florida. He married Lucy Bolinger. His children were Elizabeth, married Benjamin Ca mpbell, Nancy married George Campbell, Jerry married Betty Hamilton, Lawson married a Cox, Is sac married 1st Omah Powers, second Thursa Willis and James who was a soldier in the Mexica n War and died in Mexico." In the book "Old Time Tazewell", by Mary Hansard, another pre-Civi l War resident of Claiborne County, is a sketch of James Eastridge Sr. She says they came fro m North Carolina (in 1850, James gives his birtplace as South Carolina). Her account goes int o more detail about the children as she knew them first hand. She refers to Lucy Eastridge a s "Aunt Lucy". James and Lucy Eastridge's estatewas probated in 1868. Is this the same family ?

Researchers: Nancy Eastridge Campbell is my third great grandmother. She is buried in t he Campbell Cemetery in Lone Mountain, Tennessee. Her stone reads Born 1825, died April 4, 1 891. She was the wife of George Campbell who died at Elmira Prison camp in New York during t he Civil War. I believe her father to be James Eastridge, not Charles. Ezell of Surry, Virginia Boddie Leonora Josephine Ezell was born June 15, 1875, Giles County, Tennessee. At th time of her b irth, her parents were living in the Ezell summer home near Elkmon Springs. She was a genuin e southern Bell and loved to dance in spite of being cripple. When she was 16 years of age , as she was returning from church services, the horse she was riding (side saddle) was stun g by a bee, and ran away. He foot was caught in the stirrup and she was dragged from some di stance Her leg was badly broken, but she was determined she would walk and dance again, and accompl ished this desire. She is living in 1960, making her home with her daughter, Christine, in B rockton, Mass. Although she is 84 years of age, she is still active and very keen of mind . She was married November 8, 1898, at Pulaski, Tennessee, to marcellus Edward Woodward (cal led Charley), by Rev. Granville Allison, in the Episcopal Manse. Witnesses were Ada Cursy, L ee Moore, and Ben Strange. Marcellus Edward Woodward was born Feb 24, 1869, Giles Co., Tn, i n the Pisgah Community. He was the son of Milton Jefferson Woodward and his second wife, Mar y Frances Crook. Milton J. Woodward was the son of Thomas Woodward and his wife Matilda.

Marcellus Edward Woodward was a highly respected and successful merchant of Decatur, Alabama . He brought his bride there in 1898, and lived there until his death March 8, 1922. He is b uried beside their oldest child in the Decatur Cememtery. He loved children and was always d oing something to make them happy. He was known for his integrity and his kindheartedness . He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Decatur, Alabama, where his funeral was preac hed by Rev. Davidson. The church was filled to overflowing with sorrowing friends. Even th e schools were closed for the funeral. Leonora continued to reside in Decatur until her heal th became bad. Then, she sold her possessions there and moved to Brockton, Mass.

Ezell of Surry, Virginia Boddie Marion Polk Ezell was born July 8, 1839, Giles County, Tennessee. He was accidently shot an d killed through mistaken identity by Flether Hargrove August 27, 1881. Mr. Hargrove though t he was killing Dr. McKnight, who had eloped wit his sister to be married. He was heart bro ken when he saw that he had killed the wrong man, and said he had killed his best friend. Ma rion Polk was a magistrate at the time of his death. He had an infected hand, and after taki ng the young couple to Pulaski for a marriage license, had married them and the three were o n their way home. They were in a wagon. His hand was paining him and Dr. McKnight had excha nged places with him and was driving the team of horses when Mr. Hargrove killed Mr. Ezell . Marion Polk Ezell was called "Hoose". He was a successful farmer. He was a member of th e Methodist Church and was a Steward in his church. He served in the Confederate Army, Compa ny B. 32nd. Tennesseee Regiment, with Captain Hunnicutt in Mississippi and Kentucky. He wa s taken ill while in Kentucky and was furloughed home suffering from typhoid fever, the late r part of 1862, while at home, sick, he was captured by Union Forces and taken a prisoner t o Rock Island, Ill., where he remained until the war ended. His widow, received a pension, b eginning July 20, 1911, for the remainder of her life. Marion Polk Ezell is buried in the Ch ildress Lot, Pulaski Cemetery, Pulaski, Tennessee. Beside him lies his wife, Mary Elizabet h Tarply, whom he had married December 16, 1868. They were married in Elkton, Giles County , Tenn., by Rev. James C.
