(Bill) Denney, 314 NW 108th Street, Vancouver , WA, 98685.spouse: Cook, Sarah (~1811 - )Notes for JOHN DENNEY: Much of the data contained herein for John Denney and his descendant s was provided by Shirley (Graham) Johnson, his 3rd great-granddaughter. John is buried at Pilot Grove, Lee County,IA (Pilot Grove Cemetery). This cemetery is lo cated 0.8 north of Highway 16 on Pilot Grove Road, and sets about 1/4 mile west of the road o n top of a hill, in a grove of trees, in the middle of what is now a soybean field. The cemet ery is fenced in in but in disrepair, no one is taking care of it. Most of the headstones hav e fallen over but one that was still standing was that of John Denney. John was disowned by the Elks MM, Preble County, Ohio on Feb 16, 1833 for "DISUNITY". Grandfather of Attorney Charles Denney of Fairbury, Nebraska. Shirley Johnson of Pomeroy, WA gives a death date of Dec 27, 1879 which is what is stated in the obituary for his wife Sarah. John and Sarah moved to Iowa in 1846 or spring of 1847; their son Eli was 5 months old w hen they arrived which would put their arrival date about May, 1847. The 1860 Marion Township, Lee County, Iowa census finds the family as John a farmer wit h $2200 of real estate and $442 of personal prperty.
