BIOGRAPHY: May 9, 1873 Mrs. Caroline Fairbank is building a fine residence on Soldier Creek near James crossing 16X3 0 feet with a kitchen, shed, porch, etc. It is to be 1 ½ stories high and will be finished i n good style. William Roseter of this city is doing the work.

BIOGRAPHY: ---April 1907 ---- Mrs. C. Fairbank and grand-daughter Gertie went to Topeka Thursday. Mrs. Fairbank will visi t friends for a while. Girtie expects to to spend a month and will learn dressmaking. ---May 8, 1907 Mary Dove is assisting her Grandmother Mrs. Caroline Fairbank with house cleaning this week.

Beardstown; was born in Newark, Licking County, O., Jul y 3, 1817. He followed farming in his native State till 1839, when he married Susan Daugherd y, and in the spring of the same year settled at Bluff Springs, in this county, where he firs t entered forty acres, where the Poor Farm now is. He farmed there until 1855, raising grain , hogs and sheep, and accumulated a good property. He was superintendent of the county far m from 1851 to 1855. In the latter year he moved to a farm of one hundred and twenty acres , in the Sangamon bottoms, where he remained a year, then came to Beardstown, and, with the e xception of five years (1873-78), during which he farmed in Atchison County, Mo., has lived i n the vicinity of Beardstown ever since. He has owned a large number of farms, and is at present engaged in raising vegetable s and small fruits, at Ravenswood. His wife died in 1878. Thy had eight children: Eliza J. , Mrs. John Nicholson, of Beardstown; Mary F., Mrs. William Heminghouse, of Pekin, Ill.; Juli a A., Mrs. George S. Kuhl; Harvey, died aged two years; John H., of Beardstown; Edgar J., eng ineer on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad; Louisa, died aged twenty- three years, and Samuel O., of Beardstown. Mr. Buck is a Republican. In January, 1876, Jame s and John H. Buck bought of F. A. Hammer, their present stables, on Main street, Beardstown , where they conduct a livery and feed business, and also an agency for the sale of buggies a nd carriages. Their stables contain stall room for one hundred horses.
