BIOGRAPHY: The History of the Early Settlers of Sangamon County, Illinois shows: BIRD Family, John Bird was born Jan. 1, 1767, in Essex county, N. J. and when a young man, we nt to Washington, Mason county, KY. Abigail AUTER was born May 26, 1780, in Essex county, N> J>, also, and in 1798 went with her widowed mother and two sisters to Washington KY. John BI RD and Abigail AUTER were married there in 1801. They had ten children in Mason county, KY. , and the entire family moved in 1825 to Harrison county. John Bird died there, of cholera , July 15, 1833. Their daughter, Sarah, who was married to Jesse FOLKS, died six days befor e her father, and their son John, in his thirteenth year, died seven days after his father, a ll of the same disease. Mrs. Bird, with some of her children, came to Sangamon county, IL, k arriving Sept. 6, 1835, in what is now Mechanicsburg township. Her other children came th e next year. Mrs. Abigail BIRD died in Sangamon county. Of her eight children who came to t he county....etc.

The History of the Early Settlers of Sangamon County, IL
Samuel Black made his first trip to Sangamon County to move the mother of Rev. Peter Cartwrig ht. He made, altogether, seven round trips with a six horse team, when there were no roads , in moving the Cartwright, Gaines and Black families.
Mildred and Samuel were md. near Hopkinsville, KY their parents having moved to Christian, K Y in 1819. they arrived in Sangamin, IL in 1825, thence on to Morgan, Il in 1828. They sett led about six miles north of Jacksonville, IL.
