However, the marriag e date for James is so much earlier than John that it is suspicious that he only had one son , age three years, that age would fit better with John and his wife.

BIOGRAPHY: The History of the Early Settlers of Sangamon County, Illinois shows: Elizabeth Ro binson, born 10ril 21, 1818 in Kentucky, was married in Sangamon County to Richard Hall. The y had three children. Mrs. Hall and the youngest child were killed by ligntning, April, 27 , 1845, in Gardner township. This occurred at the house of Mrs. Hall's mother. Three other members of the family were in jured seriously at the same time. Of the other two chldren: William E. married Miss Lowery , in DeWitt county. He was a soldier in an Illinois regim\ent and died in the army. Meliss a married james Moore. They have six children, two of whom are married, Benton, and Charles . James Moore and family live near White Church, Wyandotte county, Kansas. Richard Hall wa s married, in 1847, to Sarah Sanders, of Springfield county and moved to Clinton, DeWitt coun t, Illinois. Richard Hall died in 1870 near Clinton, and his widow married a Mr. Cobb. Thed y reside near Clinton, Dewitt, Illinois. 1875.

HAMILTON, grain dealer, Ashland, a son of Charles B. and Sarah Claphan (Lucket) Ham ilton, was born in Loudoun County, Va., Dec. 17, 1835. Charles B. Hamilton, subject's fathe r, a native of Virginia, a farmer and merchant, died in 1864, aged 56 years; his wife, als o a native of Virginia, is still living, and is about 73 years of age; of their nine childre n our subject is the third. Samuel L., in 1870 engaged in the mercantile business in Mason C ounty, Ill., and after remaining there three years, removed his business to Ashland, his fami ly accompanying him. In 1880, he sold out the mercantile business, and gave his attention t o the grain and stock trade, but at present is engaged in grain dealing only. In May, 1870 , he married Eleanor, daughter of Samuel Sinclair; she was born January 23, 1839, and died De cember 1, 1881, leaving five children, viz.: Charles S., Maud, Samuel S., Lloyd L., and Sara h E. Mr. Hamilton served three years and three months in the late war; he enlisted in Co. "F ," 19th Ill. Volunteer Infantry, under Capt. Allerd, Col. Scott commanding the regiment. Dur ing his army service he received an injury which laid him up for nearly two years. He is a R epublican, and a member of the I.O.O.F.
