William, the eighth of the family, now a prominent citizen of Virginia, is a grain dealer an d shipper. At the age of twenty-eight was a member of the first Constitutional Convention of the State of Nevada, hel d at Carson City in 1863, in which State he was for eight years engaged as Civil Engineer an d Deputy U. S. Land and Mineral Surveyor and during a part of that time connected with the en gineering department of the Central Pacific Railroad Company, of California. In 1869, he ret urned to Cass County and settled on his farm near Little Indian. In 1874, was elected Sherif f of Cass County, where he has since resided. He married Miss Jennie Woodman of Paw Paw, Va n Buren Co., Mich. The ceremony took place April 12, 1859, at Duluth, Minn., and was the fir st marriage of white persons pronounced in that city. Mrs. Epler died at Star City, Humbold t Co., Nevada, Oct. 2, 1863, leaving one daughter, Miss Nellie W. Mr. Epler again married, M iss Ellen Conover July 5, 1870. Ellen is daughter of Levi Conover (of whom see sketch elsewh ere in this volume), and they have two children, Florence and Myron.

W. D. Ezell, physician and surgeon, was born in Hamilton County, Ill., in 1860. He is one o f nine children of Bailum and Nancy E. (Littlepage) Ezell. The father, born in 1823, in Hopki ns County, Ky., and a farmer and stock raiser, moved to Hamiliton County, Ill., in 1859, an d bought his present old homestead fo 120 acres, on which he still resides. His ancestors, a s far back as his memory serves him, have been ministers of the Baptist Church, and he has fo llowed in their footsteps for the last thrity years. The mother, born in Hopkins County, Ky. , in 1827, is also still living on the old farm home. Our subject had an ordinary education and from 1879 taught school for three years. He then e ntered the medical college at Evansville, Ind., but after one term he entered and in 1885 gra duated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, at Keokuk, Iowa. He has since had an ext ensive practice in Saline and Hamilton Counties. July 20, 1884, he married Orillia, the daug hter of L. L. and S. M. Coffee, born in 1863, in Saline County, Ill. She is a granddaughte r of Gen. Coffee. Politically our subject is a Democrat; his wife is a member of the Baptis t Church, and both are among the respected citizens of their community. --------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------
