In the book Gone But Not Forgotten of Atchison County, Missouri there appears the cemetery re cord of America York and her husband John K. Dyche. On America's tombstone it reads: "The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want She did what she could She was a Christian"spouse: Roberts, Mahala Jennie (1845 - )From: Thomas York <yorkto@iquest.net> Thanks so much for the information you sent and the invitation to your website. You have som e information I didn't have, and I think I can fill in some blanks in yours. That Oliver, wa s, indeed, my grandfather. Oliver and Oscar were twins born on February 26, 1873. My father said Oscar died when he was a child, b ut I don't know when. He and Oliver appear in the 1880 census, but Oscar is not found in th e 1900 census. The wife of John York, father of Oliver, was Mahala Jennie Roberts, born in O ctober, 1845 in Jasper Co., Illinois. She and John York were married on September 10, 1868 i n Oblong Twp, Crawford Co., Illinois. By the way, you may have confused John's sister, Ameri ca, born on May 2, 1848, with his daughter, America, who was born in November, 1878. More t o come later. I've taken down some notes and will check further when I get a chance and be i n touch. If you come across anything about John Craddock, let me know. He had a daughter wh ose name was Josie. I'm transcribing the 1900 Atchison Co., Missouri census to be placed on the US GenWeb Censu s Project page. Let me know if you want any information on your families in that area at tha t time. I have all the names on paper by copying from the microfilm at the local Family Hist ory Center of the LDS Church, and can look them up for you before the information gets entere d into a spreadsheet and posted. It will be several more months, at least, before I can ge t the transcription proofread and placed on the internet, but I'd be most happy to look som e families up for you. Tom
Cherie, Attached are some names from the 1900 census for Nishnabotna Township, Atchison County , Missouri. I think you may have these already. The enumerator made many errors in spelling , including the name of the township. He called it Nishnebotna. Nishnabotna is correct . I placed the names in the Excel template that was provided to me by the US GenWeb Census P roject. Let me know if you can't open it. I think Rosella may have spelled her name with 2 "Ls", rather than 1, but she was know n as Rose to the family when we all lived in Chicago. Vincent F.(misspelled as Vincient by t he enumerator), was my uncle Frank. Oliver C. was my father, later known as Cecil Oliver. A unt Maud married Gould Smith and they lived in Omaha. Aunt Helen married Verdon Vroman and t hey lived in Plattsmouth. There were other children who were born later. Jose (maybe Josie? ) was Rosella's Aunt, not Oliver's. The elder America married John Dyche, and her mother, El izabeth York, was staying with them. Oliver's sister America was boarding in Watson. I have all the previously finished townships alphabetized and I have 2 more townships t o finish for Atchison County, Polk and Tarkio. I don't think there are many more Yorks there , if any, but I don't know about your Eastridges, Gaines' and Lindsleys. I'll keep pluggin g away. Tom
