     John Samuel Croft was born in March 1846 at Ohio.2 He was the son of John Croft and Mary A. Roberts. He and Frances Elizabeth Blinn were married on 6 December 1868 at Wood County, Ohio.3 He died on 16 January 1938 at Indianapolis, Indiana, at age 91.4 He was buried in Perrysburg Cemetery (Perrysburg), Wood County, Ohio.4
     John Samuel Croft appeared on the census of 14 August 1850 in the household of John Croft and Mary A. Roberts at 4th Ward, Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio. He was listed as John age 1.5 He appeared on the census of 30 July 1860 in the household of John Croft and Mary A. Roberts at Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. .6
     John enlisted as a musician on 4 October 1862.7 He was mustered into Company H, 67th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.7 He was mustered out on 7 October 1865 at Richmond, Virginia.7

     John was deeded lot 186 in Perrysburg by Charles C. Baird, Joseph Croft, William A. Stacy, Carrie Mary Croft, and Elizabeth A. Croft in a deed signed on 17 January 1879 at Wood County, Ohio. .9

     John and Frances appeared in the household of their son and daughter-in-law John James Croft and Margaret F. Klotz on the US Census taken 19 January 1920 at 787 Forest Avenue, Portland, Cumberland County, Maine. .13
     John lived in 1934 at "a southern state" according to his sister's obituary.14
     John was, according to censuses, a stove janitor in 1870, a foreman in a saw mill in 1880, an oil peddler in 1900, and the superintendant of a furniture factory cord room in 1920.
