John Lowrey Cochran's descendants
     Samuel Wallace Cochran was born on 27 August 1823 at Ohio.2 He was the son of John Lowrey Cochran and Mary Catherine Bricker.1 He and Cecilia Casselly were married on 1 February 1848 at Muskingum County, Ohio, by J. M. Courtney, pastor of the Baptist church.3 He died on 27 February 1901 at age 77. He was killed by a train.4
     Samuel Wallace Cochran was also known as Samuel W. P. Cochran.
     He appeared on two 1850 censuses, one in Muskingum County with his brother and one in Cinncinati with his wife.5,6 He appeared on the census of 21 August 1850 in the household of Robert Loyal Cochran and Elizabeth C. Wait at Jefferson Township, Muskingum County, Ohio. He was listed as Samuel Cochran age 26, a tobacconist born in Ohio.7
     Samuel Wallace Cochran and Cecilia Casselly appeared on the US Census taken 12 October 1850 at Ward 8, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, with Charles A. Cochran. Also listed were Ann Cassely 39, Robert J. Cassely 17, Mary A. Cassely 15, and Albert Cassely 8. Cecilia was listed as Celia Cochran age 19..6 He was listedas a cigar maker.6
     Samuel Wallace Cochran was prosecuting attorney between 1851 and 1853 at Noble County, Ohio.8
     Samuel and Cecilia appeared on the 1860 US Census taken 21 July 1860 at Aberdeen, Brown County, Ohio, with Charles A. Cochran, Lutie Cochran, John Laurie Cochran, Justice Cochran and Samuel Cochran.9 He was a tobacconist.9
     Samuel enlisted as a corporal on 4 June 1861 at Ohio.10 He was mustered into Company H, 12th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. His son Charles joined the same company at the same time.10 He was reduced to Private on 18 December 1861.10,11 He was a private in Company H, 12th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry and wanted a promotion to Lieutenant or Captain according to a letter of recommendation written by his brother Hugh Macauley Cochran on 2 January 1862.12 He received a recommendation for promotion in a letter wrtten by John C. Campbell, 2nd Lieutenant, Company H., 12th Regiment, O.V.I. written in January 1862.13 He received at least seven letters of recommendation for a military promotion written by men from Aberdeen, Brown County, Ohio in January 1862.14 He was mustered out on 11 July 1864.15,11
     He was not with Cecilia on the 1870 and 1880 censuses. Cecilia was listed as a widow on the 1880 census. He has not yet been found on either of these censuses.16,17
     Samuel Wallace Cochran's widow Cecilia Casselly appeared on the 1890 Veterans Schedule at 213 West Fourth Street, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.18 He lived at Zanesville in 1896.19
     Samuel Wallace Cochran, enumerated as S. W. Cochran 78, born July 1821 in Ohio, and unable to read or write, and his wife Cecilia appeared on the US Census taken 6 June 1900 at 524 Fourth Street, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. The household included his daughter Lutie Cochran. Also listed were Harry M.B. 16 adopted son, and 12 boarders.20
