     Roswell began military service on 8 September 1812.⁹ He served as a private in Capt. Thornton Wasson's Company, 17th Regiment New York Detached Militia in 1812. He served for 1 month and 23 days and was paid $11.75.⁹ He ended military service on 2 November 1812.⁹
