Francis was appointed trustee of the bequest to Mary L. Cochran in the will of his mother Mary Royston Bozman on 27 June 1903 at Morgan County, Ohio.14
Francis was deeded property, part of outlot one second addition, where the grantors "now reside", by Mary Royston Bozman and Hugh Macauley Cochran in a deed signed on 5 December 1904 at McConnelsville. .15

Francis Wayland Cochran became involved in his father's cigar business in the late 1890s. He was listed as a manufacturer of cigars on the 1900 and 1920 censuses and the manager of a cigar factory on the 1910 census. After his father's death in 1922, Francis Wayland Cochran became the sole proprietor of Cochran Brothers cigar factory and continued in that capacity until the factory was closed in the early 1950s.
