TO: Christine in NW FL. - This line you show for Joseph Cobb is not correct
according to the book, THE COBB FAMILY OF ROCKY MOUNT, PINEY FLATS, TN
1613-1972. Pharoah was not born in 1624, but between 1635 and 1640, by
Virginia M. Turner. He is my line. He had brothers Benjamin and Joseph.
These names repeated every generation I think. Pharoah had a son Joseph
by 1st wife Ann. He m. 2nd Mary.
Edward was not the son of Pharoah. Nicholas Cobb was his father according
to the Wills of Isle of Wight. He may have been a younger brother of Joseph
Cobb I, as he lived close to him on Pagan Creek.
In the book COBB AND COBBS, EARLY VIRGINIANS, by John Cobb, Jr., the father
of Ambrose b. 1729 was Robert b. 1687 and his father was Ambrose b. 1662,
etc., etc. back to Ambrose b. 1603.

Isle of Wight 1634 Original Shire. Founded as Warrosquyoake, name changed to Isle of Wight in 1647. Isle of Wight, VA 23397. James City 1634 Original Shire. Williamsburg, VA 23185. In the year 1634 the colony was divided into eight shires or counties, one of which was named Worrosquoyacke, afterwards Isle of Wight.
Sources of Information: "The Cobb Family of Rocky Mount" Date of Birth: circa 1635-1640 Pharoah Cobb's mother Elizabeth Cobb died in 1656 in Nansemond County, VA. Pharoah Cobb died in 1701 in Nansemond County. Therefore it may be assumed that Elizabeth had gone to live with her son Pharoah after the death of her husband, Joseph, in 1653. "Pharoah and his mother sold her land in the Isle of Wight and moved to Nansemond County in 1656. Pharoah sold 140 acres of his inheritance to John Hole of Devon for 1100 pounds of tobacco, in 1686. In Isle of Wight County Will book from 1661-1719 (the date was May 31,1701) Pharoah Cobb's estate was appraised and valued at 9762 pounds and divided into three shares, 3254 pounds each."

His parents were reunited in Virginia at. 1623. He was born the next year. They moved to the Isle of Wight when he was six or seven into a primitive, frontier existence with a still constant threat from marauding Indian war parties who were now disorganized but sought to avenge the destruction of their way of life. He grew up in the atmosphere of hard work. There were no schools, he never learned to read or write, nor did his children. He was married three times. Robert,
My husband is a descendant of Newton C. Worley b. 1824 in Madison Co., AL,
child of Francis Worley & Charlotte Cobb. I am trying to figure out who his
grandparents are. I have pieced enough together to see that Newton C. Worley
is one of his great or so grandfathers. David's mom was Mary Virginia Cobb.
She is the granddaughter of William Penn Worley, the daughter of Bertie
Worley who married Robert Gordan Cobb, and died due to complications from
childbirth about 1928.
Another of his great grandfathers is Charles William Wesley Herrin, b. 1848
in AL, and Nancy A. Glover, but I cannot find a definite link to his father
who according to the 1920 Census report Charles said that his father was born
in GA. If that is so, that would show that Charles W. Herrin who m. Nancy
Glover in 1869 (probably in Madison County, AL, but I still have not seen the
hard copy proof myself) is a definite descendant of Elijah Herrin's family.
David's family had always been told they weren't related by his Dad before he
died in Nov. 2000. He also said they were not in AL until after the Civil
War, or that none of the Herrin family line they were from was from the
Georgia line.
David's father was Joe Haden Herrin, son of William Wesley Herrin and Lucie
Mae Sanford.
Until I began researching the line, I had the old tale of the 3 brothers,
which I have learned how far that can get you, so I had to piece together
what I had with real evidence to prove that he was wrong. If he was alive, I
don't know if he would even admit I might be correct today. But the story of
a big split is the last possibility I believe to be true, knowing how
stubborn the Herrin's can be. David & I have been together about 22 years,
so I can say that with authority now.
