Heirs of William Wooten to Gray Cobb, 1832
DEED
Whereas William Wooten late of Edgecombe County and State of North Carolina died
intestate in the month of October 1830 siezed and possessed of a certain Tract
of Land when his heirs and their representatives (VIZ) John Sparkman and wife
Nancy, Redding Corbitt and wife Levinney, Thomas Felton and wife Tilitha,
Gray Cobb and wife Winney, Elizabeth Wooten, Howel Wooten, William Wooten agent
for Levi and Ivy Wooten and guardian for Tamsey Wooten and Nancy, William and
Lewis Sparkman in right of their mother Zilphy Sparkman divided by unanimous
consent expose said Tract of land at publick auction on the 20th day of November
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty one when and where
Gray Cobb of the County and State aforesaid became the last and highest bidder
in the consideration of the sum of Nine hundred and one Dollars to us in hand
paid the receipt whereof we the heirs of the said William Wooten and hereby
acknowledge have Sold Conveyed and Confirmed and by these presents do sell
convey and convey unto the said Gray Cobb all our right title and interest
in the aforesaid tract of land it lying and being in the County and State
aforesaid on the North side of Autreys Creek adjoining the lands of Levi Mayo,
Joshua Killebrew, William Faircloth and the heirs of David Philips containing
by estimation Two hundred and Ten Acres be the same more or less. To have
and to hold this land above conveyed with the improvements and appurtenances
thereunto belonging or in any ways appertaining unto the said Gray Cobb one of
the aforesaid heirs of said dec'd his executors and administrators and assigns
and we the said John Sparkman and wife Nancy, Redding Corbitt and wife Levinia,
Thomas Felton and wife Telitha, Elizabeth Wooten, Howell Wooten and William Wooten
agent for Levi & Ivy Wooten guardian for Tamsey Wooten, Nancy, William and
Lewis Sparkman in right of their mother Zilphy Sparkman for our Selves our
executors administrators and assigns hereto warrant and forever defend the
aforesaid bargained premises against the lawful claim or claims of any and all
parties whatever unto the said Gray Cobb his executors administrators and
assigns forever. In Testimony we have hereunto Set our hands and Seals this
day and date above written.

November Term 1832 Court of Plese and quarter Sessions
This deed of bargain & Sale was acknowledged in open Court by Jno Sparkman one
of the Grantors & thereupon the Court appointed H Austin one of the Justices of
said Court to the private examination of the Femi C..... who appeared for that
purpose and they acknowledge they executed the same Freely without control or
compulsion of their husbands.
