[6931] It is generally accepted that she was born out of wedlock. However, family tradition does hold that her father was Thomas Looney. Theexact marriage date of her parents is yet to be discovered.
[6932] She was apparently visiting her parents in DeKalb County, Alabama, atthe time of this enumeration, and was listed in their household asCharlotte Looney.
[6933] At that time she was listed as being one year old, and living in thehousehold of her widowed grandmother Lavenia Cobb, along with herunmarried mother Naomi Cobb, age sixteen.
[6934] At that time, she was a widow with six children, and was living nextdoor to her brother Moses Abraham Looney.
[6935] By then she was a widow maintaining her own household with daughter inlaw Sarah McGinnis, also a widow, living with her.
[6936] At that time she was living in the household of her daughter and sonin law, Ida and Clarence Ware.
[6937] Although not uncommon, it nonetheless seems strange to discover that aperson has been counted twice on the same census, albeit in twodifferent locations. In this instance, Charlotte had evidentlyreturned from visiting her parents in Alabama, and was listed on thisenumeration as Emily McGinnis.
[10639] Charlotte seems to have had a penchant for marrying older men.Married twice, both her husbands were at least 25 years her senior.Further, Charlotte was "first cousin, twice removed", of the firstwife of Ambrose McGinnis, Judith Cobb. Their common ancestor was theAmbrose Cobb who died in Lincoln County, North Carolina in 1798.
