[4575]
[NOTE: The researcher of this family is given two cautions. First, itis common to find the surname spelled 'Mallicoat' and 'Malicoat' inrecords. Secondly, there were many instances of 'inter-family'marriages; ie, cousins, in laws, aunts and uncles, etc.]
During the War Between the States, he served in Company F, 1st(Gordon's) Arkansas Cavalry Regiment (Confederate), having enlistedAug 4, 1862. He was captured Oct 1, 1863, and remained a prisoneruntil exchanged Mar 4, 1865, at Red River Landing. He eventuallyapplied for a Texas pension, which was denied presumably on thegrounds that he either did not meet the financial indigencyrequirement, or that at that time sufficient records could not belocated to verify his service.
[4576] At that time he was living in the household of his daughter and son inlaw, Paralee and William Webb.
[4577] At that time, he and daughter Paralee were boarding in the home ofdaughter Faith and her husband J. Wooley.
[4578] Family tradition holds they made the journey in two covered wagons, and were led by two guides, a man named Skinner and one John RubenHolland, for whom the town of Holland, Texas was named.
[6430] This instrument was signed on 25 Apr 1831 and recorded on 04 Nov 1833,indicating he died in the interim period. The estate was inventoriedon 08 Jul 1834 and settled on 09 Jul 1836. In it he named his wifeEllender; sons Dedmond, William, and James; and daughters Dicy Nash,Mary Walker, and Susannah Nash. Witnesses to his signature were JamesK. Mallicoat, William C. Mallicoat, and Nathan Thacker. The executorswere his sons John, Dedmond, and William Mallicoat.
