[1803]
In the 1950's, a Cuthbertson descendant with whom this researcher waspersonally familiar, through an oversight, mistakenly submitted to theLDS that this individual's name was "John M." Taylor. A Taylordaughter married John M. Cuthbertson, and it is my conviction thatsomehow the names of the two men had gotten confused (John M.Cuthbertson and John M. Taylor). The name John M. Taylor can still befound in LDS records, as well as in a more recently published historyof the Cuthbertson family.
More recently, an additional claim has been submitted that this mandied in Utah around 1880. The origin of this claim is unknown butwhatever the basis for it may be defies the imagination.
After more than forty years research experience, it is my positionthat not one shred of hard documentation has yet been discovered toreveal just what the man's name was. However, by process ofelimination, I am quite comfortable in saying it was not 'John'.Indeed, I am acquainted with a Taylor descendant that is researching arelated Taylor family, and is firmly convinced the man's name wasreally Charles Taylor, and that this Taylor family had origins inAnson County, North Carolina. One Charles Taylor can be documented inAnson County, North Carolina, as early as 1790.
As all genealogists know, from time to time, in lieu of definitivedocumentation it is necessary to draw conclusions based on apreponderance of circumstantial or supporting information. That isthe case in this instance. An abundance of information is availableon the children of this man and at least two of his brothers. Basedon this combined information it becomes very clear that "Mr. Taylor"was deceased by 1850, and that he probably died in Fayette County,Alabama.
I will welcome all correspondence and information that is based on"Primary Source" documentation.
[1804] This date is calculated by the birthdate of his wife. It was mostusual for the husband to be a year or two older than the wife.
[1805] This based on the facts that he had a child born in 1845, but he didnot appear on the 1850 census, and his wife was listed as the head ofher own household, next door to his brother Littleberry G. Taylor.
[10036] This based on the birth information of the first known child of thismarriage.
