He was married and living in Lunenburg-Halifax county area ofVirginia, by 1750. He remained there until 1777, when he sold all hislands and removed to Lincoln County, North Carolina. He died about1798, leaving an extensive and complex estate, the final distributionfrom which was not paid out until 1818.
[4081] His date of death is calculated by a comparison of the dates on whichhe signed his Will (June 21, 1797), and the date on which his widowfiled a Quit Claim on his estate (November 25, 1799), in which shestated that her husband was deceased.

Charles served as Captain in the Bedford County militia during theAmerican Revolution, along with his brothers-in-law William and JesseWalton. He was a Presbyterian minister.
His Will was entered into probate on 13 January 1800, in CampbellCounty. In it he named his wife and children. He made his sons Jesseand John Executors. The witnesses to his signature were WillistonTalbot, Edmund Johns, Josiah Crows, Robert Carter, Thomas Cobbs, JamesCobbs, and Moses Cobbs.
