What little is known about this un-named woman is derived at by anexamination of facts concerning other people, then putting it alltogether like the pieces of a puzzle. Husband David disappeared fromSouth Carolina, after the 1850 census. His first child James J. Pittswas born in Texas, in 1855. In 1880, James declared that his motherwas born in South Carolina, while the woman his father was married toin 1880, Sarah, declared she was born in Mississippi. Therefore, wecan deduce (1) Sarah was James' step mother, and (2) David moved toTexas, between 1850-1855.
David was born in South Carolina in 1834. It is customary for thehusband to be slightly older than the wife, therefore it is estimatedthat this woman was also born about 1834, and possibly a little later.James was born in Texas, and all of his father's subsequent childrenwere born in Texas, therefore it is safe to assume James' mother diedin Texas.
There is an 11 year gap in the birth years of the children of David H.Pitts. James was born in 1855, and the next known child was born in1866. Beginning with the birth of Julia in 1866, children cameconsistently every other year or so until 1880. Therefore, it is safeto assume that (1) James' mother died before 1866, and (2) all thesechildren were the offspring of David's second wife Sarah.
