[1806] Jesse J. Taylor enlisted as a Private in Company C, 51st TennesseeInfantry Regiment, along with his sons Stephen and Daniel, for serviceduring the War Between the States. He was captured during theTullahoma Campaign in the Fall of 1862. He was transported to theUnion prisoner of war camp at West Alton, Illinois, directly acrossthe Mississippi River from St. Louis, where he died of disease andexposure in January 1863. He was buried in an unmarked mass grave;however, his name now appears on a stone monument at the site as wellas in the official records for the Alton Military Prison.

[NOTE: This marriage data is subject to additional research. A Texas,Ross descendant advised some years ago that Jimima Ross had beenpreviously married to a Mr. Lawley, probably in North Carolina. Themarriage records of Saint Clair County, Alabama, do specify that amarriage did take place uniting two people Jesse J. Taylor and JimimaLawley, and on this date. However, whether the two people were fromour Taylor-Ross lines is the question. While the date of the marriageis about right to account for the birth of the first known child ofthis marriage, the location is off. The first two children born tothis couple, consistently claimed to have been born in North Carolina,Therefore, in consideration of the traditional migration patterns ofthe day, it is most likely that the parents would have married inNorth Carolina. If that was the case, this Alabama marriage could nothave been "our" Jesse and Jimima.]
One of the children produced from this marriage, Stephen Ross Taylor, eventually married the niece of Jimima Ross, Nancy A. Ross, daughterof Jimima's brother Dugal Ross, Jr.
[10261] The lived near Willard, Kentucky.
