I cannot find Maria Charlotte WATERMAN in the 1881 census: either her name was grossly misspelled, or she was not in the UK? In view of family mythology associating the two girls, and the 1901 revelation of Maria's deafness, might she have been with her sister Emily - in Scotland or Ireland?

Henrietta Susanna WATERMAN d. 2Q 1885 age 61 (Greenwich 1d/504)

………1891: lvg. 20, Duke Street, St Paul Deptford, London; reg. dist. Greenwich
…………George WATERMAN, Widower age 75 b. Southwark, London (Retired Iron Founder)
……………John M. WATERMAN, Son, married, age 38 b. Newington, Surrey (Barman)
……………Charlotte M. WATERMAN, Daughter, married, age 30 b. Greenwich, Kent

The above 1891 Enumerator's markings, on the original Census form, for "Married" and "Single" (or unmarried) are haphazard and manifestly unreliable (children under the age of 10 marked as "M" ...)
- John M. WATERMAN was noted as "married" in the 1891 census: no corresponding marriage entry found, to January 2013. See subsequent 1899 marriage.
- Maria C. WATERMAN seems invisible in the 1891 census; she was not then working for the MARCHANT family. Since listed above as "Daughter" Charlotte M. WATERMAN would seem to have been Maria Charlotte: the age and pob would be correct. The 1901 census reveals that Maria was deaf, so that it may have been quite difficult for her to find a situation? or was she at home looking keeping house for father and brother?

………The BROWN, HILLS, WATERMAN relationship

In one of the photos taken after Millie (Amelia Maud) TAYLOR's wedding (1837), are two elderly, upright, ladies, dressed in long clothes: possibly Emily and Maria (see "McQUARRIE" link above). FreeBMD lists a death which might be for Maria (age 79, 3Q 1940, Camberwell 1d/1131).

A John M. WATERMAN d. 1Q 1914 age 61 (Marylebone 1a/711): possibly John Meek?

A Mary B. WATERMAN d. 2Q 1950 age 82, reg. Ampthill (4a/2), the area in which John Meek WATERMAN's wife was born; and the only death for a Mary B. WATERMAN, of the right age, which I have found.
