DRUNK AND RIOTOUS

James Albert Tilbury, bricklayer and builder, from Little Missenden

ON Monday, at the Highgate Police-court, Jeremiah LESTER, Elizabeth LESTER, James Albert TILBURY, and Mary TILBURY, husbands and wives, were charged on summonses taken out by Inspector MILLWARD, S Division, by order of the Commissioners of Police, with being drunk and riotous in Manor Park-road, Finchley.

BOWDEN, 459 S, said that at 11.45 on Thursday night, the 1st inst., he was on duty in Manor Park-road, when he heard a disturbance and indecent language. All four defendants were drunk and each made use of disgusting language. They were falling about the road. Jeremiah LESTER said he would knock witness's brains out with a stick, and James TILBURY jumped over some railings and took part in the disturbance. The men were so drunk that they could scarcely stand. Mr. BODKIN [magistrate] said he could hardly understand how a man who was so drunk that he could scarcely stand could jump over railings. Constable: He was rolling about.

The defendants all denied that they were drunk, the defence being that Mrs. LESTER, at twenty minutes past eleven, went out to look for her husband, whom she met coming from the Green Man public-house with the other defendants and a woman named KINGSLEY. Mrs. LESTER was angry, and used bad language towards Mrs. TILBURY, the result being that these two fought, and were separated by the constable. Mrs. KINGSLEY gave evidence in support of the defence, and said that she had been with the TILBURYs and Jeremiah LESTER at the Green Man, where they only had three pints amongst the four of them. On their way home they met Mrs. LESTER, who struck Mrs. TILBURY. J. A. TILBURY, the male defedant, said that the constable offered to lend Mrs. TILBURY money if she go away quietly to summon Mrs. LESTER. The women TILBURY and KINGSLEY said this was true, but the constable denied it. The Bench fined each of the defendants 10s., and 6s. 6d. costs, or seven days.

Mrs. TILBURY: I may have law, but I'll be blowed if I have got justice.

The money was paid.
