LYON COUNTY DESECRATED CEMETERIES

With growth and progress of time, certain things are lost. EVEN our past...

I understand that the following gravesites have been destroyed over the years due to disinterest and negligence of others.

Name Date Township Section
Coon Creek Baptist Cemetery Abandoned)   Coon Creek Section 33, 3/4 mile west. Above Russell Cemetery
Easter Presbyterian Cemetery (Abandoned) 1873 Lyons Section 14, County Road 5, 4 miles South of Lynd
Island Lake Presbyterian (Abandoned) 1892 Island Lake Section 34, Northeast corner of section
Old Marshall Cemetery (Abandoned) 1893 Fairview Section 23, Southwest
Old Hemnes Norwegian Lutheran (Abandoned) 1882 Nordland Section 14, 3 miles south of Minneota, east of present Hemnes Cemetery
Old Grandview Cemetery (Abandoned) 1881 Grandview Section 14, East side North of Hwy. 68

If you feel the destruction of old pioneer cemeteries is illegal...you are correct! Unfortunately, the farmer must be caught within two years of when the work was performed. This act is a felony. Please write to your state Senator or the Minnesota State Archaeologist and tell them that this must be stopped.
