LYON COUNTY DESECRATED CEMETERIES

With growth and progress of time, certain things are lost. EVEN our past...

I understand that the following gravesites have been destroyed over the years due to disinterest and negligence of others.

Old Hemnes Norwegian Lutheran (Abandoned)	1882	Nordland	Section 14, 3 miles south of Minneota, east of present Hemnes Cemetery
Old Grandview Cemetery (Abandoned)	1881	Grandview	Section 14, East side North of Hwy. 68

If you feel the destruction of old pioneer cemeteries is illegal...you are correct! Unfortunately, the farmer must be caught within two years of when the work was performed. This act is a felony. Please write to your state Senator or the Minnesota State Archaeologist and tell them that this must be stopped.
