Services held here on Friday for Mrs. Isaac Newton Clover
Mahala D. Clover died on December 29, 1943, in
Glenwood, Iowa. She has lived in Glenwood for 61 years, and died
at the age of 93 years, was ill for only a few days.
Services for Mrs. Clover were held in the Raynor
Chapel Friday, December 31, 1943 at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. H.G. Parker of
the Methodist Church officiating. Music was furnished by Corp.
Martin Richardson, with Mrs. Edwin Fleer at the piano. Those
caring for the flowers were Mrs. Harry Ling and Mrs. Herb
Edmonds. The pallbearers were J.L. Ross, Paul Sulhoff, Art Buers,
Reed Graves, Marion Wiles, and Joe Wilcox. Interment was in the
Glenwood Cemetery.
The following life sketch was read at the
Funeral service.
Mahala D. Disbrow was born October 10, 1850,
near Waterloo, Monroe County, Illinois. It was there she grew to
womanhood.
On November 4, 1873 she was united in holy
wedlock with Isaac N. Clover, the ceremony being performed at Waterloo,
Illinois.
Ten children were born to this union, four of whom
survive, namely, Clark and Arthur Clover of Glenwood, Iowa, Ralph
Clover of Oakpark, Illinois, and Mrs. Esther Roberts of Red Oak,
Iowa. There are two grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Clover spent
the first nine years of their married life first in Nebraska, and then
in Kansas, where in the later state, they lived on a homestead.
They came to Glenwood, Iowa in 1882. Thus Mrs. Clover has been a
continuous resident of Glenwood for 61 years.
Mrs. Clover was converted
and united with the Methodist Church at Waterloo, Illinois when but 12
years of age. After coming to Glenwood she united with the
Methodist church here. Thus for 81 years she was known as a
Christian. Few people have lived so long; fewer still have lived
so well. She loved people, and was in turn was loved by
them. She had a radiant smile, cheery word, and helping hand for
all those about her. She was known as wife, mother, neighbor, and
friend in the very best sense of those terms. She was rugged of
body, virile of mind, and beautiful of spirit.
She cared for her own home
until a few weeks before her passing when she was taken to the home of
her son, Clark; where hands prompted by love, ministered to her.
She passed peacefully into rest Wednesday evening, December 29, 1943,
having reached the advanced age of 93 years, 2 months, and 19 days.
