Gene
Clover
and World War II
The following pictures of Marines on Maui were sent to me by Matt Wold.
<m_wold@yahoo.com> They belonged to his father. Matt
is not a Clover, but thought that some of us would enjoy seeing the
pictures. His father made notes of the names on the back of the
pictures.
There are several Eugene Clovers in my records. However, I
suspect that the Gene in the pictures is this one.

He was a descendant of Philip
Clover born 1829.
He is listed as a Veteran and buried in Kansas according to Veteran's
Administration Records:

Deceased Name: Eugene L. Clover
Eugene
L. Clover, 84, Westmoreland, died Thursday at Mercy Health
Center in Manhattan after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 3, 1915 in Aurora, Ill. He
was a graduate of Glendale High School in Glendale, Calif., where he
and his parents moved in 1920. He served in the United States Marine
Corps and the Marine Reserves for 20 years and was a veteran of World
War II. He earned the rank of sergeant in the Pacific theater. He
worked as a machinist for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita and then worked at
the Hesston Manufacturing Co. in Hesston for three years before
retiring.
He was a member of the Westmoreland United Methodist Church, American
Legion Post #186 and the Community Service Club, both of Westmoreland,
and the Marine Corps League.
He was married to Rae Deane Fairchild 17 May 1944 in Oakland,
Calif. They lived in Oakland and Wichita and moved to Westmoreland in
1972. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two
daughters, Cheryl Clover, Burns and Kristen Moorefield, Wichita; two
brothers, Homer Clover, Bervard, N.V. and Robert Clover, Titusville,
Fla.; two grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Westmoreland United
Methodist Church. Burial will at the Westmoreland City Cemetery with
full military honors. Mr. Clover will lie in state today at the Stewart
Funeral Chapel in Westmoreland beginning at 10:30 a.m., with the family
greeting friends from 3 until 5:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the
Westmoreland United Methodist Church or the American Lung Association.
Donations may be left at the Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego or
Westmoreland.

would like to know for sure if this is the right person.
