Robert
Grant Clover
Son of Philip Clover and Fannie Clugh
John Clover of
Jefferson County, Pennsylvania
Note:
Robert
Grant4,
(Philip3,
Philip2,
John Peter1
Clover).
According to Frampton, Robert G. Clover, was the son of Philip Clover
and Isabelle Cathcart. Various censuses show his age
differently.
However, the early censuses where he is with his family have
him
born in 1841. He served in the Civil War and received a
pension
for it. I do not have a copy of that pension
record. Pensions of that era normally include
information
about all of this children, all of his marriages. That would
be
very useful. Since I don't have that, I have limited
information
on him. His middle name is in the 1880 census.
Service Record: Robert G. Clover, Private, Co D, 2nd Pennsylvania
Infantry Battalion, mustered in 23 July 1863, mustered out 21 January
1864.

In 1910 he was in the Disabled Soldier's home first in Leavenworth,
Kansas, and then in Marion, Grant County, Indiana.
The information on
the page says that he enlisted at Clarion, Pennsylvania, and mustered
out at Pittsburgh. He was aged 70, 5'10" tall, blacksmith, married.
Wife, Eliza Clover, living in Council Bluffs. He was admitted
to
the hospital 10 August 1910, died 4 February 1918. The
application for a pension of his widow on 19 February 1918 was
approved. He
was buried in the Home Cemetery according to the record book of the VA
hospital. That is the Marion National Cemetery, Marion,
Indiana.
His stone has no birth date, the correct death date and the
wrong middle initial.
His wife Eliza "Lizzie", was born ca. 1855, Ohio with parents born
Germany, according to the census records below. In 1880, they
have a Cally Oldrick with them as a sister in law so her last name
might have been Oldrick. However, in the 1925 state census, the
individuals were asked for the name of their father, which was Jacobe
Astri. I have
not researched her, but might guess that the sister in law is from a
second marriage of her mother. She died after 1925, probably
in
Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Clover:
All of these are marked as his children in the 1900 census.
In
1900, she had born 3 children, all of which were living.
1.
Harry P. Clover born ca. September 1878 in Nebraska. He appears
regularly in censuses until 1929 with one of his parents, at which
point he disappears from view in Iowa. He was a teamster. His
mother is not in the 1929 Council Bluffs City Directory with him, so
she
may have died and he moved on. She had been living with
him.
2.
Guy
Forest Clover, born 11 August 1883, Nebraska, according to his
WW
I Draft Registration. He is home with his family until
sometime
before 1910. He moved to South Dakota where he purchased land in 1914.
Guy
F Clover, age 33, married Alice E
Dick, 20, on 6 June
1917 in Tripp County, South Dakota. The 1925 South Dakota
State
Census has her middle name as Evelin. Sometime after the 1925 South
Dakota State Census, they moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa where their
names were in the 1929 City Directory. They had several
children.
I have birth certificates for only two of them.
