Obituaries

Franklin and Logan Counties:
I originally published these two obituaries almost six years ago and was treated to the ugliest, most obscene emails and letters from a person who is insistent Henry Clover was born in 1751. In any case, I am in the habit of publishing documents as I find them. The fact that this obituary offends someone is not my problem. Do not send me ugly emails because I will not respond.

Margaret R. Waters, Dorothy Riker, Doris Leistner, compilers, Abstracts of Obituaries in the Western Christian Advocate, 1834-1850, (Indianapolis, Indiana: Indiana Historical Society, 1988). 169. The introduction states that this newspaper was published by the Methodist Church in Cincinnati beginning in 1834. A relative or minister acquainted with the deceased usually contributed the obituary.

I would very much like to know who this is.  If you know or can find out, please let me know.
Roseanne Clover Hennis died 20 September 1932, buried 22 September 1932, obituary appeared 29 September 1932, Jeffersonville, Ohio Citizen (Fayette County)
Her name is spelled Hennes in the Ohio Death Index.

Franklin County, Ohio
This short article was originally published by me in Spring 1999.  I was excited to find James N. Clover’s middle name.  No one knew it at that time because no one had gotten this particular death certificate.

Death Record: The following information is found on the Ohio Death Certificate of Estella B Bailey.  She was born 11 July 1880 Red Key, Indiana, died 14 May 1963 at the Belleview Nursing Home in Columbus, Ohio.  She was widowed, the daughter of James Nathan Clover and Marion F Goetchous.  She was buried 16 May 1963 in Forest Grove Cemetery, in Fairfield County, Ohio.  The informant for this death certificate was Mary Offenberg of Columbus, Ohio.
Estella B. Clover married Joseph Bailey, 4 September 1900 in Franklin County, Ohio. Joseph Bailey was born 8 August 1875, Logan County, Ohio, the son of Fred Bailey and Barbara Clump.(1)
Estella’s death certificate is of particular interest because it gives the middle name of James Nathan Clover which had not previously been known. He died quite young and is buried in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Norwich Township, Franklin County, Ohio, where his tombstone reads: “James N Clover d. 28 Nov 1881, 24y 3m 19d.”(2)

Frank Wilson Clover
CLOVER Frank Wilson Clover, 85, died March 29, 2009. Born February 6, 1924 in Warsaw, Ind., the son of Nora Jane "Jennie" Brown and Ralph H. Clover. Survived by wife, Marian Anderson Clover (whom he met while taking courses at Columbia University); daughters, Christine Clover and Rebecca Jo Clover; son, Frank L. Clover; and brother, Ralph Clover. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Signal Corps in World War II. He received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1948 and a Masters in the History of Science from Harvard University on the GI Bill in 1950. He practically qualified as an alumnus of The Ohio State University by taking over 50 courses through Program 60 after retiring. He worked for thirty-five years for the American Electric Power Company in New York City, in Canton, Oh., where he helped to develop the company's extra high voltage transmission system, and in Columbus, where he edited the company magazine "Operating Ideas" and served as corporate photographer for five years. He was a man of many interests whose number one enemy was boredom; he was active in the Scandinavian Club of Columbus, the Columbus Rock and Mineral Society, the Westbridge Camera Club, the Whetstone Folk Dancers, Buckeye Trail, the First Unitarian Church of Columbus, and the Unitarian Church of Staten Island, New York. His hobbies included photography, camping, foreign travel, and reading about architecture and jazz music. He played chess since childhood and played every Sunday with his son for the last ten years of his life. He received an Ohio Arts Council grant to photograph and document eight-sided buildings (octagons) in Ohio for a photography exhibit at the Cultural Arts Center in Columbus and continued to discover and photograph octagons elsewhere in the United States. His ancestors were some of the early settlers of Franklin County and founded Clover Cemetery near Galloway before moving to Indiana. Instead of a funeral, he requested that his body be donated to the Body Donation Program at the Division of Anatomy in the Ohio State University School of Biomedical Sciences. The family is grateful to the employees and volunteers of the Mount Carmel Hospice.

Clovers in Akron Obit Index. [Bradford is in McKean Co, PA] This was all sent to me as a lookup and I have no further details.
May 4, 1953 issue of the paper and was very short.  It read:
"Lottie Clover, age 66, of Lodi.  Formerly of Bradford, Pennsylvania."
The second was for an IRA CLOVER and was in the March 20, 1961 issue.  The film was on the reel backward so I didn't copy this one today.  Maybe soon.
The third was for a Burt Clover and appeared in the March 22, 1981 issue.  It reads
       BURT M. CLOVER
Guilford Twp. --Burt M. Clover, 79, of 8866 River Styx rd., died March 21 at his residence after a two year illness. Mr. Clover was born in Bradford, Pa., and resided in Wadsworth for the past 17 years.  He was employed at the Henry Furnace Company as an assembler, retiring in 1964.
Mr. Clover is survived by his wife, Eva B (nee Walsh)
Visitation and services will be held at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, Bradford, Pa.  (Hilliard - Cox)
[Guilford township is in Medina County.]
