The

descendant of Jane Clover, daughter of James Clover. She tells me that
the cemetery is across the road from some Clover property.
Spangler Cemetery

Spangler Cemetery, old section

Mary Clover in the old section of Spangler Cemetery. Mary
(Williams) Clover was the
first wife of John Metler Clover. Kay tells me that the good condition
and the style of the tombstone suggest the tombstone was erected later
than 1839.

SPANGLER CEMETERY
Vermillion Co., Clinton Twp, IN
The old part of the
Spangler Cemetery is located on the east bluff of Brouillets Creek,
south side of the old Clinton-Paris Road, about a mile east of
Blanford. Cuthbert Spangler bought the land of John Richardson of Clark
Co., IL, and it was recorded on December 6, 1824 in the Land Book in
Vermillion Co. Courthouse at Newport, Deed Book 1, page 162, records
East half of Northwest quarter Section 145, Township 14 N of Range 10
in the District of lands for sale at Vincennes. The Plat book shows it
in 1818 was a Canadian soldier grant.
The oldest part of
the cemetery is set off from the new section by a road. It is set off
in another way, being on a hilltop or bluff, the new on low lands which
may have been covered with timber, for when it was added timber rights
were reserved. It is still being used for burials. Those buried here
cannot all be accepted as having lived in Vermillion Co., IN. This
cemetery is so near the Illinois line many Edgar Co., IL families used
it.
