Clark County Probate Index 1819 to 1878

According to the information of the Ouachita Baptist University, it is the repository for the Clark County records. Every-name indexes to Circuit, Criminal, Civil, and Probate Records, as well as tax records from 1866, have been indexed by the Clark County Historical Association. You can write to the library for information on these entries. They will do look ups for a charge. These indexes are available on line at:

http://www.obu.edu/library/countyrecords.htm

I have not seen the material that they are referring to but if you look at the entry from 1933 in the last item, you will see Susie Laverne Clover, Robert Arthur Clover, Mary Ethel Clover, Joe Lynn Clover.  So all of these entries at not in the years indicated.

FHL 6050936 Index to Wills and Administrations from the Earliest to 1900, compiled by Mrs. Connie Cox Stevenson and Mrs. Edward Lynn Westbrook, (Jonesboro, Arkansas: Vowels Printing, 1986).  The book is divided by county with no overall index.  I searched Clark County and found only William Clover, administration on pages 135-6, case no.1838-1856 dated 1850. I also searched Sevier, and Lafayette Counties.  The records of old Miller County are supposed to be in Lafayette. I did however trip over an interesting Freeman item.  Remember that the earliest land record for John Clover was a transaction with a Hamblin Freeman.  In Arkansas County, Arkansas will book A: 27, there was an entry dated 1842 for Hamlin Freeman.

Old Miller County, Arkansas

Because there was an Isaac Clover in old Miller County in the 1830 census index, I checked probate records for this area.  No Clovers were found in this book.

James Logan Morgan, Probate records of Miller County, Arkansas, 1823-1838, (Conway, Arkansas: Arkansas Research, 1992)  [Note that this is Old Miller County which was disbanded at this time because it was mostly part of Texas.]
