Confederate Military Records

I previously published this list of Confederate Soldiers in The Clover Family Exchange, Volume 9, Issue 2, Spring 2000, page 24. Most of these soldiers were in Arkansas.

    Confederate Soldiers: There were Clovers on both sides of the Civil War.  The Clovers in Arkansas naturally were on the Confederate side along with Clovers from some other southern states. The following names are listed in the Roster of Confederate Soldiers, 1861-1865 Vol II, Edited by Janet B Hewett, 1995, p 471.

Arkansas Confederate Veteran’s and Widows Pension Applications, by Frances T. Ingmire, (St. Louis, Missouri: 1985), 77. William H. Clever may be a Clover.  

Eli Clover, widow no. 407, Matilda Clever[sic] Veteran died 12 March 1862 Widow application dated 1 July 1892. Clark County. Served in C Company, 4th Regiment Arkansas Infantry in 1861, 62 days.

William H. Clever, widow no.15312 Mary A Clever. Veteran died 5 August 1902. Widow application dated 5 August 1902. Clark County.  Served 1865, Arkansas.


Bobbie Jones McLane, Arkansas 1911 Census of Confederate Veterans, (Hot Springs, Arkansas, Arkansas Ancestors, 1988). No Clovers found.

    The names in the following index are listed in "Arkansas Confederate Pension Index" by Desmond Walls Allen, published by Arkansas Research, PO Box 303, Conway, AR 72033, 501/470-1120 voice and fax Price: $37.00 softbound, plus shipping.
    Additional information, where available, about each person includes: widow's name; military company, regiment, and division; year of veteran's and widow's pension applications;
county of residence; dates of death for veterans and widows. In addition, the book lists residents of the Arkansas Confederate Home, and those people granted pensions by legislative acts.

Reference: Index to Compiled Service Record of Confederate Soldiers who served in Organizations from the State of Arkansas. These are index cards which contains only the soldiers name, company, unit and rank on enrollment and rank on discharge.
[On this site there are links to the battles in which this unit fought.  However, note above that he died in October 1861 before most of these battles.]
