Cornelius Tanis was born on 29 January 1883 the U.S.A..1 He was the son of Phillip Tanis and Trijntje De Jong. Cornelius married Gertrude Mae Kuyper, daughter of Kornelis Kuijper and Wilhelmina Broertjes, on 1 January 1906 in Roseland, Cook County, Illinois.2 Cornelius and Gertrude were living at 10612 Nebash Street in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.1 They had at least 2 children but their names are not known. Their daughter married Mr. Eenigenburg. Their son married Miss Vandermeulen.2
