     Aafje Madderom was born on 12 May 1842 in the Netherlands.¹ Aafje married Cornelius De Jong, son of Pieter De Jong and Trijnte Dalenberg, on 14 November 1859 in Roseland, Cook County, Illinois.² Aafje and Cornelius had at least 4 children. These children are Peter, Nicholas, Jan and Katherine.² Her name has also been given as Eva DeYoung.
          Cornelius, age 21, and Eva, age 18, were enumerated on the 1860 Federal Census for the Blue Island Post Office in Worth Township, Cook County, Illinois. Their farm was valued at $600 and his personal property was valued at $200. The census confirms that they were married within the year.¹ Follow the link to see the census image.
          Cornelius, age 42, and Aafje, age 38, were enumerated on the 1880 Federal Census in Calumet, Cook County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household were two sons, Peter (age 1) and N[icholas] (age 6 months).³ Follow the link to see the census image.
          Cornelius died on 8 December 1914, leaving Eva a widow.² Eva died on 4 December 1924.² She was 82 old.
