Alta Carrie Collander was born in August 1886 in Iowa.1,2,3,4
She was the daughter of Levi Callender and Rachel Elizabeth Millslagle.
Alta, age 18, was enumerated in the household of her parents on the 1900 Federal Census at Market Street in Clay Township, Hardin County, Iowa. She attends school.5

Alta married John Ernest Millslagle, son of Peter Andrew Millslagle and Hester Elizabeth Quiggle, circa 1906.6,7
He was about 31 and she was about 20.6,7
Alta and John had 5 children. These children are Donald Leroy, Ralph L., Gerald E., Ernest J. and Dale.8
John, age 35, and Alta, age 24, were enumerated on the 1910 Federal Census in Jackson Township, Warren County, Iowa. Also enumerated in this household were their children, Dale (age 3) and Donald (age 1). Living next door are John's mother and father (plus his siblings).9

John, age 44, and Alta, age 33, were enumerated on the 1920 Federal Census at 3900 1st Street in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. Also enumerated in this household were their children: Don (age 11), Ralph (age 6), Ernest (age 4 years and 3 months) and Gerald (age 2). A son, Dale, is not enumerated with them. I believe that he has died. Don's son always believed that his father was the oldest child. They rent their dwelling.10

John, age 52, and Alta, age 42, were enumerated on the 1930 Federal Census at 3624 Columbus in Des Moines. Also enumerated in this household were their children: Don (age 21), Ralph (age 17), Ernest (age 14), and Gerald, (age 12). They rent their house for $16 monthly and they have a radio. John is not a military veteran.11

Alta died in January 1936.12
She was 49 years old.
