William's occupation is shown as "Teamster" on the birth certificates of all children until 1876, when on the certificate of his son, Benjamin Daniel, he is shown as "Laborer". Again in 1881 on William Anson's birth certificate he is a "Teamster". Then in 1886 on James Edward's birth certificate he is listed as "oysterman". His occupation is shown on the 1900 U.S. Census for Town of West Haven, as "Teamster". He did have a store in a small houseboat where he sold bait, soda, candy and such items. The sign read "Noah's Ark". The houseboat was beached on the water, probably at Savin Rock in West Haven. The time frame is not known.

Mary Jane Manning Clinton died June 4, 1903 in West Haven of Uterine Cancer at the age of 48 years and 15 days.

The date of death of William is still being researched. His death certificate was not found in West Haven. He may have been living with one of his children in another town at time of death. We know that he outlived his wife.

1900 US Federal Census Soundex shows William's birthdate as Oct. 1851 this is first evidence of anything other than year. He is shown as age 48,born in CT. Living in West Haven,Front Avenue.

James E, son born Oct 1886 age 13 born CT.

Birth certificate of son, James Edward Cllnton, Oct 31, 1886, shows age of William Walter clinton as 35, which would bring the year of 1851 in range, if his birthday is earlier than Oct 31.
Benjamin Daniel Clinton's birth on Oct 9, 1876, certificate shows father's age as 24. This would confirm the 1851 birth year for father, if his birthdate is between Oct 9th and Oct 31 of 1851.
