This Indenture
made this the twenty third Day of October in the year of our lord one thousand
seven hundred and eighty one Between Stephen Clement of the County of Pittsylvania
and Colony of Virginia of the one part and Pleasant Thurman of the County
of Chesterfield and Colony of Virginia of the other part Witnesseth that
the said Stephen Clement for and in consideration of the just and full sum
of twenty one thousand pounds current money of Virginia him in Hand paid
by the said Pleasant Thurman the Receipt whereof the said Stephen Clement
doth hereby acknowledge hath given granted bargained and sold and by these
presents doth give grant bairgain sell deliver and confirm to him the said
Plesant Thurman his Heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel
of land situate lying and being in the County of Pittsylvania in Virginia
containing three hundred Acres more or less lying on both sides of strait
stone creek formily pattent for Francis Pollard and bounded as followeth,
to wit, Begining at Lesters corner maple in the low grounds of said creek
thence up an down both sides of the said creek concluding the wide low ground
being part of the above mentioned land their being part sold of with all
and singular the privileges and appurtainances there unto belonging or in
any wise appertaining To have and to hold the above sold land and premises
with all the appertenances unto the said Plesant Thurman his Heirs and assigns
forever to the only propper use and behoof of him the said Pleasant Thurman
his Heirs and assigns forever against him the said Stephen Clement his Heirs
or assigns and against the clame and demand of all other persons whatsoever
shall and will by these presents warrant and forever will defend In Witness
whereof the said Stephen Clement hath hereunto set his Hand and seal the
Day and year first above written
Memorandom that on the Day and year first within mentioned Quiet and peaceable possession of the within mentioned land and premises was given and made by Stephen Clement to Pleasant Thurman in Presence of the subscribing Witnesses
Rec.d the just sum of twenty one thousand pounds Current Money of Virginia being accounted the value of the within mentioned land this the 1781 By me
At a Court held for Pittsylvania County the 21th Day of November 1781 This Indenture together with the memorandum of Livery & Seizen & receipt theron indorsed was proved by the Oaths of three of the Witnesses thereto to be the several Acts and Deed of the above named Stephen Clement & the same was ordered to be Recorded by the Court
